Portfolio Review
WHAT: Portfolio review is conducted by teacher's to look at the progress being made by a student. The review should take place before the end of term interviews and/or preparing the progress reports. The teachers collect the students' portfolio binders to review the items in them like assessments and activities. The portfolio needs to show clear evidence of what the student is able to do.
WHY: It is done to look at a student's progress in a level and to help make a decision on their CLB level for the next term. It is important that there be 'sufficient' evidence to support the CLB level being assigned. According to the CCLB, 'it is difficult to make decisions related to ... levels if there are fewer than 8 to 10 [samples] in each of the four skill areas'
HOW: The teachers go through each binder on their own and ensure the following are present in a student's portfolio:
*The inventory should list the included assessments and activities for each skill. There should be one inventory per skill or one inventory with skill sections clearly marked. Please see the Learner Portfolio Inventory section for samples.
