Learner Portfolio Inventory
WHAT: A learner portfolio inventory is a summary of the assessments (and sometimes activities) a learner has completed for each skill that is placed in the "About Me" section of the Language Companion Portfolio. Each student must have an inventory in their portfolio.
WHY: The inventory provides a way for students, teachers, and others to quickly see at a glance how many assessments the student has completed in each skill. It helps other teachers or administrators quickly get a more organized picture of what a student has achieved in a level. It also promotes development of organizational skills for learners.
HOW: Each time an assessment or activity is completed in class, students record what the task was, the date, and the score they received (if it was an assessment). Activities may also be included, but will not have a formal score. One inventory page per skill can be used, or one page with all 4 skills at the front of the binder, or a combination of both.

Learner Portfolio Inventory Warm-Ups, Activities and Strategies:
- Teachers can walk the whole class through putting a sample in the portfolio and on the inventory together, step by step (especially lower levels)
- Include the skill section on the paper somewhere (Listening/Speaking/Reading/Writing)
- Colour-code pages with coloured paper or coloured dot stickers (especially lower levels)
- Provide one inventory near the beginning of the semester for students to keep track throughout the term, like a first draft, and then provide a clean blank one near the end of the semester for students to record their "top 10" on to hand in with the binder
- Have a regular "Binder Day" where students know to bring their binder to class and spend time organizing and checking the binder
